Hey guys, Iam having a few problems with installing OsCommerce, I have installed it twice one with https and one without, now it says php register_globals is off so i need to enable it eather by the server or by .htaccess now I have put the information into the file but its still giving me the following error

 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. 

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@monitor-repairs.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. 
More information about this error may be available in the server error log. 
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

also I have noticed that on my domains if i put https://mydomains.com everyone of them is going to a mobilephone website I personaly think this is a bit dodgy and would like it looked into much further.

You cannot enable register_globals or any other php setting using .htaccess. You must use a php.ini file in the root directory of the application you wish to affect with the new setting.

The line that needs to be in the php.ini file is
register_globals=on

Hey Kieran, I have tried to locate the php.ini file on the ftp for that client but i cannot see it its not even in the php folder in the root directory, i created a php.ini file and uploaded and still same problem! I tried to phone the support help line yestarday and after 10min I gave up and sent an email.

The php.ini file needs to be in public_html. It is not there by default and must be created. The ini file in your case should have one line, the one I indicated.

Any references to php in the .htaccess file should be removed - it will ALWAYS cause the 500 error otherwise.

For HSphere accounts try adding

php_flag register_globals on

to your .htaccess file

tomwp you are quite correct for HSphere, but for all other accounts that line in .htaccess will cause a 500 error.
