Around 7am today I started to receive errors from clientexec, saying it was unable to open a file

When I've checked the file, it appears the permissions were changed to 000 from 644

I've tried changin the permissions I get access denied.

I'm able to rename the file and upload a new copy, however can anyone explain why the permission has been changed.

The file is /public_html/client/services.php.old

You should be able to change such permissions via chmod so long as your username is still the owner of the file. Who owns the file(s) with the 000 permissions?

Owner is showing as 32021 and group is 32022 on both the problem file, and the file I re-uploaded

trying to change permissions gives me:-

Yes, it would I'm afraid because the owner is not your username; I'm not quite sure how that has happened.

You could try and change the permissions using the CPanel file manager as that runs with elevated permissions but restricts you in a different way to compensate (an example of this is allowing you to access your clients home directories as a reseller whereas when logged in using SSH using the reseller account you can't). This difference may well allow you to change the permissions on those files, but obviously not the owner of them, the root user would need to do that.

That user seems to be the one against all my files, and I don;t have problems with any others.

However, as you said, the file manager allowed me to change the permissions

I'm afraid I can't; files created and modified by php should be owned by your username, thats how suexec works. The fact that they aren't now is very odd indeed.

Your best thing to do is raise a ticket with the username of the account with the problem and ask for your files to be chowned back to you - I do not have root access to the server to make this change for you.

For fault-finding purposes on the error, if you create a file using a php program now, what user owns the file and what are the permissions on it?

I've just had the same problem occurr again with the same file

Clientexec reported an error, unabel to access services.php, permissions are set to 000, and I can't change them via ftp

The owner and group entries are as per the rest of the files on my space, so I don;t understand why.

I've moved the file to a subfolder so I can reupload it.

Kieran or Matt - If it would be helpful for you to have a look at the file, I can create an FTP login to that subfolder for you
