Create a file that executes as bash. Place in it a change directory line to point to where in your home directory structure you would like to save the backup file. On the next line use the mysqldump command with the correct arguments for username, password and database name and specify a file name for the dump to be saved to.

Once this file is created you can save it in your home directory (below public_html) and then create a cron job with a path to this file and then the CRON will execute it as you made it an executable file. Remeber to assign the permissions correctly on the file.
