Default Over Allocation - 30/11/2006, 8:39 PM

Hi ive just signed up for a reseller account but have a question.

Am I able to over allocate webspace and bandwidth?

For example say I have 100 MB of web space can I create a package that gives 50MB webspace then create 5 accounts on this package.

Not all of them are going to use the whole 50 MB so as long as I stay within my limit I should be able to keep adding accounts.

Hope ive explained this right.

Thanks

No, you cannot do this. That technique is known as over-selling and is not supported on Xilo servers.

It is also worth noting that Xilo do not over-sell bandwidth or disk space to customers and resellers either.

Ahh pants. That causes some complications.

I may have to re-think this reseller account.

Thanks for replying.

It is worth mentioning that over-selling is not really a good idea. You can end up in a situation where you don't have enough space or bandwidth to go round, especially bandwidth as that is in a constant state of flux, and then of course your clients will be very unhappy.

While there are some hosts out there that will allow you to over-sell, it doesn't mean its a good idea.

it is a good idea not to oversell still..
i had a look at the server i am on and found there are 328 other sites hosted on this server, if they are all reseller accounts and each host just 5 domains work it out yourself..

Fully agree with you here.

Whilst there maybe 328 sites - alot of these are small i.e 1-5mb each also and of these are aliased domains pointing the same domain (several domains using the same account space).
