Default Change to VPS - 29/07/2006, 1:10 PM

Hi,

I currently have two shared hosting packages with you - would it be possible to transfer these over to a single VPS? The reason behind this is that I have a Ruby application I really need to get up and running and I don't want all my projects spread across multiple hosting companies.

Also - I have never run a VPS system before (though I have run servers from home). How much comes pre set up or is a completely clean system? I mean I dont want a long down time switching from shared to VPS.

Thanks for your help.

Are the shared hosting packages reseller accounts or ordinary? If they are reseller accounts then they will be running cpanel, so as long as you get a cpanel install on your VPS you would be able to transfer everything over in a couple of clicks. If they are shared (non-reseller) accounts they will be on HSphere so transfering might take a little longer; most likely involving transfering home directories, sql databases and mail setting separately for each domain, although there may be a way of doing this I am not aware of, thats how I had to do it moving from ensim to cpanel.

A VPS with cpanel would come pretty well setup, although there would be a fair bit of customisation to do to get it how you want, update bits and secure what you wanted secured etc. Allow a day to get things how you want before you migrate customers accross, better still allow a period of testing, perhaps using a few of your own sites to make sure everything is going to be ok before moving paying customers.

Hope this helps in some way
