Default Reasons for message rejection - 25/07/2006, 5:28 AM

Hi,

Some people who try to send mail to my domain are bounced by the xilo mail server with the following error:

552 Sorry, this message appears to be spam (#5.6.0)

Is there any way to find out exactly what reasons the message was blocked for (mail server on spam database, message content etc?). It would be useful to be able to tell some 'good' senders why the server doesn't like them, so that they can do something about it.

Thanks,

Samir

Hi Samir,

Looks like you have the setting for SPAM to be deleted instead of tagged on your mailbox.

If you goto your mailboxes and then the anti-spam options, you can choose if you want the message to be deleted, tagged or untouched.

Hi Tom,

Yes, the filter is set to delete messages - simply because otherwise the users have to download too many (marked or unmarked) spam messages - especially on dialup! I was hoping there might be a log or something that could be used to identify why the rejected message was marked as spam?

If not, I might just divert all spam to a separate mailbox where the odd wanted message can be picked up if necessary.

Thanks,

Samir

Samir,

I would suggest you just tag them and in the mail header it will give something like the following to explain how it got the score it did.

X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.7 required=4.0 tests=HTML_60_70,HTML_MESSAGE,
MIME_HTML_ONLY autolearn=no version=3.1.1
(Of course, this is from a non-spam message).
