Its quite easy really, place the following into a file called "kill-cores" above your public_html directory:-

Code:
#!/bin/bash

rm /home/[usernname]/[directory1]/[directory2]/core.*
(where [username] is the username of your account and the [directoryX] paths is the path to where your core files are being spawned)

Then chmod the file to 755.

Go to cpanel, then cron jobs, set a new cron to execute every minute of every day of every month etc, effectively every minute. Set the command to execute as "/home/[username]/kill-cores"

And thats it, your core files will die every minute

If you have more than one place per account where cores are being generated, you can insert a new "rm" line in the bash file. Enjoy

OK.

No more core. files will be generated as we've isolated the problem.

Can you confirm Keiran?

Give me five minutes or so to disable the minute by minute crons and I will tell you

Default core.* file problems. - 18/05/2006, 12:16 AM

I'm going to move the posts relating to the core.* files here so that the original thread does not go to far astray.

I can confirm that core files are no longer being generated and that I have as a result disabled my cron jobs (save on the old server load )

I still cannot get uploads to work in the forums on www.routertech.org though.... it seems that freeing up the space that the cores were continuously using on there hasn't re-enabled the upload function, unlike on all my other sites that sport an upload of some kind. Users also cannot download files via the attachment system from there either

What kind of uploader is it?

Further to this - we have received a reply from cPane;

Quote:
Is zend optimizer installed on this server? The latest revision of zend optimizer has issues which generate these errors under certain conditions, and has yet to have been addressed by the zend development team. Unfortunately the only current solution is either to disable zend optimizer, or to download and install a working version ( generally I've seen good results with 2.6.2 ).
We have already resolved the issue but will be monitoring Zend to find out what the problem was.
