Default Unable to access Xilo.net - 25/04/2006, 12:28 PM

Hi all,

I'm unable to access www.xilo.net from home (I'm posting this from work) as it just times out.

I've tested this and I'm able to access other sites. I tried to do a tracert but I get the following message...

command = tracert xilo.net

"Unable to resolve target system name xilo.net"

command = tracert www.xilo.net

Works fine

It seems if I add the www it works fine but not from my browser.

I also tried pinging your site from dnsstuff.com etc but the same thing.

Not sure why it works at work but not home, just thought i'd let you know.

Hi Marmite.

What network are you on? I've just tested both the xilo.net and www.xilo.net from DNSstuff and our primary nameserver and both check out OK.

[root@pingu ~]# host xilo.net
xilo.net has address 193.238.80.20

Hi Tom,

I'm on Multiplay broadband (www.multiplaydsl.net), I'm able to access every other site in my favourites list.

Have you tried pinging xilo.net from dnsstuff? I get a 'no response' but works fine for other sites (e.g google.co.uk).

It was all working fine last night?! If the errors on my side then I've got no idea whats up as I've changed nothing.

I won't be able to reply after 4pm today so if need be I'll update you when I get back tomorrow (around 4pm ish).

I'll check back here after lunch.

Marmite - Some digging to be done.

We do block ICMP from all locations so thats why you get a timeout on DNSstuff but the servers are alive.

Hi all,

Just to let you know I'm able to access xilo.net from home again. Does this mean the problems been fixed? If so, what was the problem? *nosey*

Hi,

Nothing has been changed our end so I may have been a temporary DNS glitch. We have checked all 3 of our clustered DNS servers and they are all serving the correct (and same) records.

Let us know if it happens again please!

Whenever I enter xilo.net into my address bar, up pops google.com. I'm sure it's a problem with my ISP's servers (freenetname) as the site always appears properly at work.

Incidentially, when google appears on my screen, if i search for xilo.net, it always lets me in. It's as if i can link into the site but not request it directly. weird!

You to eh? Very weird

In my case I have Xilo bookmarked and underneath it I have Google.

Whilst it hasn't happened for a couple of weeks now, what was happening was when I clicked on Xilo in my bookmarks, it went to Google. I just thought it was my computer throwing a fit, but maybe not.

Matt, Tom, any ideas? but like I said, it hasn't happened for a while

Hi Marmite, I thought that but I have this computer protected to the b*ll*cks and run scans every day
