Default Webmail Issues/ Google Apps - 15/04/2008, 2:45 PM

Hi,

I've got a couple of problems with @Mail

firstly a lot of links within emails don't parse correctly so the automatic link script within it only gives me the following:

Code:
https://webmail.xilo.net/atmail/parse.php?redirect=http
I realise this isn't something Xilo can fix as it's a third party script but I was wondering if there are any new upgrades to the webmail system due that migth solce this problem. @mail seems to be very flakey in supporting HTML formatted emails as well.

I know it is highly unlikely as I'm on on the shared hosting thing but is it possible to use Google Apps

Google Apps

as a webmail client? I.e can it be installed as a system for eveyone who uses Xilo would I have to transfer the email settings in my domain settings over to google and would that be possible with XIlo or do I have to my email and website hosted together?

Hi,

I'll raise with @mail to see if there are any updates or if they can fix that issue.

Regarding Google. It's nothing we can use but you should be able to use it on a domain level but it's not something we can support for obvious reasons.

I would suggest using Roundcube email in the interim - works really well and is my personal favorite.

Thanks Mat for your quick response. I'll look at Roundcude whilst I consider what to do.

I've just been reading a bit more on the google side of the app and have tried to understand it all and it is hosted by them and I would have to change my domain records to point to their servers so I understand you cannot support it, I'll be honest and say that the reason I was looking into it was the IMAP support and 6 gig of free space, I've never been sure if I have IMAP on my account or not and always used POP3 and with only 1 gig of space on my account (which I presume is taken into account with the webspace) I don't think (with all the emails over the years) that It would fit on that space.

Thanks again

Hi,

Yes - You do have IMAP and POP3 access both enabled - everyone does.

1GB is alot of emails. My work email box is around 189mb and thats going back to 2002. Of course, I don't keep EVERY email but do the ones that I need.

Google Apps are great but just remember they are free and whilst they may not get withdrawn they do have their downside like Google scanning your email for targeted ads. Although, this may not be a problem if using IMAP - depends how secure your emails are to you.

I have no idea how much mail I have and if you've got all of your since then I should be ok!

Thanks very much for your help. I'll back up my mail this evening and change the settings in my email client (Mail.app) to IMAP and hopefully it should all work

One tip. In Mail.app - if saving trash on the server, get it to delete after a week or something - otherwise you'll have a folder full of rubbish.
