Default Yahoo Email Addresses - Non Delivery. - 25/02/2008, 10:22 AM

Hi,

I run four forums (phpbb) and Yahoo/BtInternet refuses to accept any mail delivery to users from my four different domains.

I have tried contacted them about it but nothing seems to happen. Any suggestions?

Yahoo have recently started using Greylisting for their email. Now, BT also use Yahoo servers for part of their email services (those powered by BTYahoo).

We see this on our own servers and after a while the mails do go through but in situations like this - if Yahoo think the mail is spam, they will reject it.

There isnt much we can do as the servers are not blacklisted but more the message content.

I assume you have tried an SPF record? I had issues with some of my forums to a range of "free" e-mail addresses until I ensured the SPF record was set correctly on the domains in question.

In WHM, go to Edit DNS Zone and select the domain you want to add an SPF record to.

Then add a new entry as follows:
Code:
domain.com. IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx ~all"
It should be obvious where the components of that line need to be written.

What this actually does:

Code:
v=spf1 This identifies the TXT record as an SPF string.

a Indicates the A record for your domain can send mail, in other words
the xilo server on which your domain sits can send mail for your domain.

mx This allows the MX records for your domain to send mail. Normally this
actually equates to the same server as the A record but not always. Its best
to include it in case your domain has a slightly different setup.

~all Essentially means only servers specified above can send mail purporting to
            be from your domain.
As always if you need anymore help, post up here.

There is a much easier way than this now.

Simply go into the Email Authentication and enable SPF and Domain Keys. Ignore any errors at this time.

Okay, done that, comes back with...
Code:
SPF

SPF will specify which machines are authorized to send email from your domain(s). This means that only mail sent through this server will appear as valid mail from your domain(s) when the SPF records are checked.

Status: Enabled, WARNING: SPF cannot be used because this server is not a DNS server for mydomain.co.uk [?]
Your current raw SPF record is : v=spf1 a mx ?all
Do I need to make any other changes?

BTW Overwrite Existing Entries: is ticked.

Thanks

Steve
