I am working on a project which involves grabbing a frame from a movie and saving that frame. I found out to do that you need ffmpeg installed but this is not avaialble on the server which I am on, which is indigo. Is it possible to get ffmpeg installed on the server. I tried to install this(ffmpeg-php) php equivalent off it but haven't had much luck with it.

Hi,

It's not something we'd look at installing on the shared or reseller platforms unfortunately.

The only way to be able to use this within PHP as you seem to require it would be a VPS as then you can customise the PHP config yourself.

I managed to get some result with the ffmpeg-php version which requires no installation but that the file be moved to the php's extension folder. Is it possible to get this done.

Sorry but we don't alter the configs on the servers to include untested extensions without testing them in-house for a few months to ensure there are no issues or performance problems.

Are you not able to load this individually using your own custom php.ini file?

Sorry Matt can you please give some insight in how to create a custom php.ini file, I shall Google but anything helps

Hi Folio,

Sure. Just create a file called php.ini in the directory you want to play with the ffmpeg stuff.

You then add the appropriate extension lines into your own php.ini file which should load them as it would do on a global config.

The lines should be in their documentation.. Let me know if you cant find them.

Simply add;

PHP Code:

extension=ffmpeg.so 


to your php.ini file.

You may need to include the full path before the ffmpeg.so part.

I've done this but it's not looking in the directory specified by the custom php.ini This is the error i get http://zproducts.co.uk/test/test.php.

But.. I think you are going to need to have libavformat.so.52 installed and I am not sure if a local copy will work.

Maybe you could google that and have a look - as far as php.ini goes, I corrected it and if you check out info.php in the same dir, it'll show you that
