| User ![]() Posts: 39 Join Date: Aug 2006 | I recently had SSH enabled for my account but for the life of me cannot get the Java applet which is provided by cpanel to work. I have attached a screen dump of the error that I get when i try to use the applet. I would also like to know how I can configure my account so i can login by ssh using program such as putty. |

If you do not have anywhere to change the port number, please download PuTTy which will get around this problem. | User ![]() Posts: 1 Join Date: Nov 2005 | Finally, been searching for 2 days, and trying 22 like it says in teh Xilo Knowledgebase. But even then it doesn't work. "Shell access is not enabled on your account! If you need shell access please contact support" Yeah right ... been trying that for 2 days |

| Techie & Moderator ![]() Posts: 753 Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Swindon, UK | Shell access is available on port 222 as many brute force attacks attempt to use port 22. As for gaining shell access for your account, it is only granted when a good reason for requiring it is provided. What constitutes a good reason is at the discretion of Xilo staff. This request needs to be made using a support ticket. Requesting shell access constitutes a low priority request; SSH is neither essential nor critical to the functioning of your site or e-mail and so it may take a few days for you to receive a response - critical issues with customers sites will be dealt with ahead of your request by support staff. As for the knowledge base, the article you mention refers to H-Sphere, but your account is CPanel (and uses port 222 and requires authorising as discussed above). Hope this helps |
