Just wondering on what sort of traffic the bandwidth is calculated on? The reason I ask is that my daily band width is usually less than 500MB, however I've just started using an unlimited site map generator from http;//www ,xml-sitemaps, com which has shot my bandwidth usage through the roof!

My monthly average is about 10GB, yet I've only done about four site scans and my bandwidth usage is already over 14GB!!! Surely this can't be right as the programme runs on my webspace, so is not actually downloading any images etc.

Looking through the xml forum, this situation has happened to others, but because many of the posts end up as pm's its not always possible to make good. Has anyone got any ideas on how to change things so that my bandwidth is not effected so much?

Hi Steve,

When the sitemap generator goes through your site - generally it will download/view everything it fines - thus logging in your webstats as traffic (as the webserver served the request).

I'd be careful with those - they can cause load issues on the server that may cause your site to be suspended or even worse, cause the server to become unresponsive and crash.

Hi Steve,

As we personally don't use them - I can't recommend any. When we did try out sitemaps, we found no gain over them compared to allowing Google to spider your site naturally - although, it will differ from site to site no doubt.
