Default rsync backups - 05/11/2007, 5:12 PM

Hi,

I've just signed up for some backup space with rsync. I'm running my own dedicated server with Linux and Cpanel / WHM from Xilo (Thanks Matt for sorting it so fast!).

I'm getting WHM to do a daily backup of all my sites and important cpanel files into a fold called /backup on my dedicated server. I would now like to backup the backup folder using rsync over to my
new rsync space.
I haven't got a clue how to copy over the /backup folder over to my rsync space. Could someone help?

I don't just want to use FTP only, I think I could use SSH, I would also like to set this up so it's done every day with con jobs.

Because I'm crap, I will need step by step info on how to do this.

Thanks in advance!

OK, an update...

I'm using this line in Putty
rsync -a -e ssh backup / 10436@ch-s010.rsync.net:/backup

I then enter my password when requested by Putty, but then I get this error.....

Les,

You only want to backup /backup.. Change the command to.

rsync -a -e ssh /backup [email address]:/backup

Hi Matt,

Thanks for that. I emailed rsync.net - Secure Offsite Backups, Offsite Data Storage and Remote Encrypted Filesystems, Offsite Backup they replied with this one..

rsync -av /backup 10436@ch-s010.rsync.net:

I used it in SSH and bingo it copied all the backup over to my offsite server.

Thanks for your help.
