Default A Few Questions - 30/12/2005, 12:29 AM

Hi there,

I've had a domain name and web hosting with you for about 6 months now, and I have to say that I'm really happy with the service so far. I've got a few questions though.

I've just recently purchased another domain name, and (I think) I've not got both my old and new domain names associated with the same web space, as I didn't purchase any more hosting. I've added the new domain name to my list of domains in my control panel, and a new folder has been created in my webspace directory, so I'm assuming everything is fine.

If I wanted to purchase more web space in the future, is it possible to transfer my new domain name over, so that I have my old domain name associated with the old web space, and my new domain name associated with my newly purchased web space?

Also, with my hosting package (SiteHost) I get two MySQL databases and 300Mb of web space. Is it possible for me to request additional databases and web space (at extra cost, of course) without having to upgrade to another package? If so, how much extra do you charge per database or megabyte of storage?

Lastly, When I registered my new domain name, I was asked if I was an existing customer (which I am) or if I am a new customer. I selected 'existing customer' and gave my email address and password as requested, and the system came up with my current details (all of which were correct). Yet the next stage asked me to choose a username and password, so I simply used the existing ones that I'd given when buying my first domain 6 months ago. But I got an error and was told that my username was already in use and that I should choose another one. I was just wondering, if I'm an existing customer, why do I need to have more than one username? It isn't a problem, I'm just unsure as to what they're used for, as my old username and password give me access to the control panel for both my old and new domain names.

Sorry for the long-winded post, and thanks again for your continuing help and support.

- Dom

Sure! Our extras page is not yet published on our site but can be seen here; http://www.xilo.net/services/extras/

Upgrades can be done in a matter of minutes.

We would like to remove that box as it does cause confusion but there is no way to do it right now.

You can use the alternate form at http://my.xilo.net/billing/order/?v=1 and that will not ask for the user/password details.

Please let me know if I can help further.

That's great thanks for your help.

I sent an email a while ago asking if you offer native XML databases in any of your packages, which sadly you dont. It's a shame, as I'd be very interested in having one. Anyways, just something to think about.

Thanks for your help, and have a great new year!

Dom,

We will certainly look into native XML databases in the new year. We are also looking into Ruby (on Rails) hosting as well - if that would interest you.

Certainly has one coder in the office excited.

Yeah that sounds interesting.

I've got a couple more questions. If I've got 300 Mb of web space, and a MySQL database of up to 50 Mb, is that 50 Mb part of the 300 Mb of web space, or is it in addition to the 300 Mb?

Also, what's the score with .htaccess files? Can we use them?

Dom, I'm using a few .htaccess files, and haven't encountered any problems.
