Default New to Deadicated hosting - 12/12/2005, 2:59 PM

Right i've been on a shared hosting package (with another supplier) just for my web sites and friends sites. I'm now designing my website to start hosting as a buisness. But my current host an't that good, i get a few time outs and it seems slow.

So i'm looking at a deadicated server (maybe a re-seller for now). With DA control panel, as it's what i'm using now. Guess it will be easier to transfer all my domains/sites if i have the same control panel.

My question is:- after signing up with XILO what will i need to do with this server to start hosting (and of course transfering exsiting clients). Do i need to install a firewall?

Quick question on reseller packages:- Can i have DA control Panel or is it just Cpanel?

Hi egomouse.

Thanks for the post.

If you are looking at a reseller account, they only come with cPanel unfortunately. However, cPanel is alot more powerful than DirectAdmin - so that maybe something to consider.

When you order the server, we arrange for it to be built and placed online. We can help you secure, harden and firewall the box if you like. There is no charge for this.

Hope that helps.

Matt

that's what i like to see. A helpful provider. Do you have any idea how to go about transfering users and sites from a DA account into Cpanel? As i will need to transfer my 9 clients along with there Domains/E-mails/Sites.

Also one quick question. I use Modern bill for all my automation on creating accounts and billing my clients, but for this to work i need a cron job to run a php page. Is this OK?
Also can you have a quick look at www.buckfest.co.uk/forum and just check you won't have any issuses hosting such a forum, since there can be a bit of bad language.

I think i'll be signing up for a re-seller for now. Until more clients come rolling in

*edit:- sorry forgot to ask. What's the differance between a Shared SSL and one i buy? I need a secure part to my site for client login and bill payment.

Hi there again egomouse,

Unfortunately there is no automated way to move things from Direct Admin to cPanel. You would either need to ask your clients nicely that you will need to recreate their accounts and that they will need to reupload their content - or do it for them.

ModernBill and cron jobs is fine.

The forum that you have posted is also fine to host bad language is not against our Acceptable Use Policy.

Shared SSL contains our domain whereas your own does not.
