Default New Customer - Redirect Existing Domain To Point To Xilo Webspace - 19/10/2007, 12:26 PM

Hi all,

I've got a question. I know a guy who I've recommended use your services as web hosts, as he's been using free services and found that his website goes offline too often.

So, he's already got a domain name registered with 1&1, and just needs to sign up for your XS0 account, with no extra domain name. He also doesn't want to transfer his domain name away from 1&1 (however much of a pain that might be!)

So my question is, when going through the signup process, which of the three options do you choose during step two?

The options are:

- I want XILO Communications to register a new domain for me.

- I want to transfer my domain to XILO Communications

- I will update my nameservers on an existing domain.

As he doesn't want to do either of the first two options, that leaves option three. But when selecting option three, you have to enter a web address. I take it that is where you'd enter his existing domain?

Also, when it says "update existing nameservers", I take it that means that we'd need to update his nameservers to point to the Xilo nameservers? At the moment, we can simply redirect his domain name to a different domain name using the 1&1 control panel.

Thanks for any help.

- Dom

Yes you want to select option 3. The option to enter a web address will indeed be the domain your domain name

You then update your nameservers in the 1&1 control panel to point to the nameservers given by Xilo

Hi all,

I've now helped this guy buy some webspace with you, and I've changed the 1&1 nameservers to point to the Xilo nameservers.

How long will it take before everything is set and ready to go?

Also, do I need to do anything within the Xilo control panel?

No, you shouldn't have to, as long as he has the domain pointed at the Xilo nameservers. (you would only have to do something if you had transfered the domain over to Xilo)

You should allow up to 24 hours for propogation but it's usually a lot quicker than that.
