Default Change in Website regulations - 03/01/2007, 1:10 PM

I thought I'd just post this as a reminder. I expect most people are aware of this but in case anyone isn't, the below came into effect 1st January 2007

Quote:
From Jan 1st 2007, companies in the UK must include certain information on their Web sites and in their e-mail footers or they will breach the Companies Act and risk a fine. The minimum information needed on any business site includes the name, geographic address and e-mail address of the business and the legal name of the organisation with which the customer is contracting.
Also, if the business is a company, the registered office address and the registration number. If the business is a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including any registration number, should be provided. If the business has a VAT number, it should be stated - even if the Web site is not being used for e-commerce transactions. Prices on the site must be clear and unambiguous and state whether they include tax and delivery costs.
Pretty basic stuff but never the less, F.Y.I.

Here's one for you

Companies to update websites and email footers before 2007 | The Register

Here's a couple in respect of e-commerce as well although I too am still to read through it....

The UK's Distance Selling Regulations | OUT-LAW.COM
The UK's E-Commerce regulations | OUT-LAW.COM

The above 2 links are in respect of Retail sites which must comply with the Distance Selling Regulations, which cover requirements for businesses that sell to consumers (B2C, as opposed to B2B). For details, see OUT-LAW's guide: The Distance Selling Regulations - An Overview (links above)

Hope this is of use to you and your MD......They can be sooo picky can't they

Sorry - by official, I meant government type sites, rather than news sites

Sorry, I missed the 'official' bit.....

I haven't really looked to be honest as I've been receiving quite a few newsletters with this info on so am working on the premise that it must be correct.

If anyone can shed any light on the validity of this by ways of an official site I'm sure it would assist.

Hi all ..

After a brief search I have found a some more info from the DTi website:

www.dti.gov.uk/files/file36201.doc

It looks like it could be 'official' but any views anyone has after reading the document will be appreciated.

One question is whether this is just for public companies or all UK companies?

I suppose it will need some case law before there is a major worry.

Cheerio and enjoy
Dave

What about if your not a limited company, i.e. sole trader?

Does the same regulations affect us?

I don't really see how we can. We are not Ltd's but I personally feel that we must try to cover what we can. I for example have placed a statement to the effect that I am not VAT registered and no VAT inv will be issued. I've also advised all prices quoted are Pounds Sterling, that kind of thing.

Yep, I always mention I arent' VAT registered.

I have telephone num, fax, Skype details on the contact page but no address, as I live in rented accommodation, and the business is run from home, and don't think my landlord would appreciate it.

I have throught about getting a po box but I'm told that it's not a good business practise to use po boxes.
