When you order a hosting package you can register a domain name. It is usually this one that is free. I'm sure Matt and co. will not do you out of your free domain though so you should raise a ticket about it and they should be able to advise you on how to go about getting it

I didn't order one when I ordered my package so I didn't get one. From the link you have provided in the post it looks like you should get the one you order along with the package for free. If you didn't order one at that point but wish to do so now in order to get it free I advise you contact support.

Who were you with such that you didn't have to pay A-Wing? I know someone with 200 odd domains that could do with such a deal

I previously ran the servers for a hosting company (all Linux based, 30,000 domains, 6000 clients), and earlier this year I was developing software for a .uk drop catcher. Domains were perks of the jobs
Until I can get a job that pays enough so that my wife doesn't have to work however I am stuck at home with my youngest, self employed.

I'm head of the North Wales Linux Users Group too
I also own linuxforum.co.uk but I have left that to go stale really.

A Linux Jedi indeed, lol

Its at this point I should mention that I love Linux; its all I run and would consider running when it comes to setting up a PC or server. Theres just something about logging into a Linux box every morning that gives you that warm feeling inside. Problem is it's always a learning curve when it comes to Linux. I'm a fair way above average with knowledge of its use, but there are always things I end up having to go in search of when I least expect it. Luckily I have a good friend who seemingly knows everything there is to know and that comes in rather handy.

As for involvement I haven't got my fingers into quite as many things as you, but I do run RouterTech.org which is involved with authoring Linux based firmwares for ADSL routers.
