Hey Tom,

Sorry for not seeing this sooner.

OK I know it's Depeche Mode (boring to most) but i am a 'dvotee' always have been.

And a big thank you for allowing animated avatars. I just love this one!!!

Easy question for you, I've started a forum and have this one. Why do most forums not allow animated avatars?

Spreading the word : Depeche Mode!!!!!!!
We must all learn to appreciate the greatest band ever.....

Quite simply because it is distracting on the eye when reading threads - especially the fast/bright coloured ones. They are also often larger because of the multiple images needed to be strung together to make the animation and so increase page loading times.

I'm getting too old for animated avatars! Distracting and carp to my mind. Also a bit old hat.

To me what's interesting is the post itself, not the stuff that surrounds it.

Gary.

Warm regards,
Gary.

Well its just a newsgroup system; text based discussion in a threaded format with thousands of different groups. I used to use it a lot more than I do now, but yes its good, worked wonders in the days of dial-up when anything shiny was the spawn of satan for connection speeds.

I remember in 1994 when there were no forums around and everyone used newsgroups!!! Sadly, I havn't used any since 2000 - really don't have the time anymore.

I use groups within my department at university, but I don't use public groups anymore.

Good to know someone on here remembers the good old days of the text based internet
