Default RubyOnRails - RoR - 9/04/2006, 9:58 AM

We're looking into adding Ruby on Rails (RoR) to some of our hosting packages.

Whilst we are testing ways to implement this into our current hosting offerings, we would like to hear from you with comments or suggestions for our RoR-compatible packages.

While having little to no experience of Ruby/Rails, I have heard great things about it and if my experiences of python very recently are anything to go by I can certainly see myself delving into Ruby on Rails soon. I'm voting yes because once I start to tinker I usually want a place to start showcasing my handywork and letting people play with it themselves

EDIT: For those looking for a quick intro to what Ruby and Rails is in general and how it can be used, this page on the Rails wiki is quite handy: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pa...AtTheBeginning

I'm going to vote 'yes' as well, mainly coz I like getting my grubby mits stick into all the dirty little pies of the internet.

I'm with Dom on this one, RoR looks fun to play with. Still getting to grips with PHP but always open to new options like this. Thanks for the wiki site btw : )

Hi

I installed Rails on my laptop the other day to try it out. I found a quick demo at:
http://www.rubyonrails.org/screencasts

Your proposal is timely Would you also be implementing PostgreSQL?

We asked about PostgreSQL a while ago and there were no plans then.

Thanks Clive

We don't have any plans to implement either (RoR)Rails or PostgreSQL on our shared or reseller platforms at the moment.

Testing RoR is still continuing to ensure that should we add to certain packages our servers will be able to cope with the increased memory requirements etc.

If you want either RoR or PostgreSQL - I'd suggest one of our UK-based VPS' with cPanel
